The Canine Good Citizen: Every Dog Can Be One, Second Edition

The Canine Good Citizen: Every Dog Can Be One, Second Edition Review

The Canine Good Citizen: Every Dog Can Be One, Second Edition Overview

"...purebred or mixed, with this book any dog can become a Canine Good Citizen.... The Volhards'...approach to training, which they call the Motivational Method,...is designed to do just that motivate the owner and the dog. The Motivational Method is grounded on a thorough knowledge of how people learn and dog behavior. Since 1983 they have authored or co-authored four major books on dog training and teaching dog Obedience classes, and have produced four video tapes. I am...pleased that they have written this book on the Canine Good Citizen. I cannot think of anyone else who could have done a better job. This book contains everything the reader needs to know about training any dog to become a Canine Good Citizen. Still, there is much more the book shares a wealth of insights for the beginner, as well as the experienced dog person. The book's best feature is that it gives each person the means to tailor the training to the individual dog's character and temperament. It thoroughly explains what makes dogs different and how these differences dictate the approach to training that needs to be taken." James E. Dearinger, AKC Vice President, Obedience

The American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen program was developed to promote responsible dog ownership in a manner that would be easy for both dog and owner. Any book that promotes and encourages dog owners to participate is doing a public service, and this book does it well.

"This book is aptly named. Yes, every dog, both pure-bred dogs and mixed breeds, can be a good citizen if their owners care enough to make it happen. The key is to encourage dog owners everywhere to be responsible enough to make their dogs a pleasure to be around and able to handle most situations that they might be expected to encounter in everyday life." Robert H. McKowen AKC Vice President, Performance Events

The Dalmatian did not originate in Dalmatia, an area which lies along the coast of what was once Yugoslavia, currently under the control of Croatia. They may have originated in Rome, but they were most certainly spread across Europe with the Gypsies. During the Middle Ages they came top be associated with the Catholic Church and uniquely spotted dogs have been traced back to early Christian times. Popular in Europe, the breed moved to England where they became coach dogs, traveling for hundreds of miles under the front wheels of a coach and guarding it when the human travelers were eating or resting. They developed a love for horses, living in the stable instead of the mannor house. To learn more about the Dalmatian, if the breed is right for you and where to locate a breeder look in "The Basic Guide to the Dalmatian."

Military Working Dogs FM 3-19.17

Military Working Dogs FM 3-19.17 Review

Military Working Dogs FM 3-19.17 Overview

The last Army dog field manual (FM) was published in 1977. It reflected military working dog (MWD) doctrine developed during the Vietnam era. Although useful at that time, much of the information has since become obsolete. Today, MWD teams are employed in dynamic ways never before imagined. Today's MWD team is a highly deployable capability that commanders have used around the world from Afghanistan to Africa and from the Balkans to Iraq. These specialized teams aid commanders in stability and support operations as well as in warfighting. Being modular and mobile makes these teams very agile. As situations dictate, MWD teams are quick to arrive and able to conduct various operations. Their versatility allows for effective transformation at all echelons among readiness for deployment and operations on the ground, through redeployment and back to readiness. The highly aggressive dog tactics of the 1960s and 1970s are long gone. Today's MWD program effectively employs expertly trained and motivated handlers coupled with highly intelligent breeds of dogs. These teams are continuously rotating between their assigned duties and deployments worldwide to perform joint operations, multiechelon tasks, and interagency missions. This FM addresses the current capabilities of the Military Police Working Dog Program as well as the potential for future applications. As technology and world situations change, the MWD team will continue the transformation process and give commanders the full-spectrum capabilities needed to be combat multipliers on the battlefield as well as persuasive force protection and antiterrorism assets.

Small Dogs, Big Hearts: A Guide to Caring for Your Little Dog , Revised Edition

Small Dogs, Big Hearts: A Guide to Caring for Your Little Dog , Revised Edition Review

Small Dogs, Big Hearts: A Guide to Caring for Your Little Dog , Revised Edition Overview

Small dogs can bring big rewards!

Small dogs are charming, intelligent, and loving, but they can also be overly energetic, manipulative, and stubborn. How do you ensure that your little dog becomes a fun, feisty best friend rather than a tiny terror?

Small Dogs, Big Hearts is an updated and expanded edition of the classic The Irrepressible Toy Dog. It features the very latest, safest, and fastest training methods for little dogs. There's no need to use training methods from the past that don't work well with most dogs, let alone little ones who view the world and their owners from a very different vantage point. You'll find everything you need to know to train your little dog, from housetraining to house manners, in this updated volume.

Small Dogs, Big Hearts follows the small dog from puppyhood through the senior years, giving advice on important topics such as:

  • socialization
  • housetraining
  • behavior
  • nutrition
  • healthcare
  • pampering your pint-sized pooch
With lots of adorable photos, you'll see small dogs at their most charming while you learn to bring out the best in your little bundle of love.

Darlene Arden is widely acknowledged as an authority on small dogs, and is the author of many books and articles about dogs and their care. A member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, she is a certified animal behavior consultant and a regular contributor to Animal Radio Network.

Words of Appreciation for this book and its predecessor include:

"The voice of experience speaks about the hidden (and not so hidden) life of Toy dogs. Darlene Arden's sensible and practical advice is a must for would-be Toy dog owners. -Dr. Nicholas H. Dodman, Tufts University, Author of The Dog Who Loved Too Much

"Small Dogs, Big Hearts is an invaluable treasure of information… It includes every aspect of puppy care from infancy through adulthood. It is precise, beautifully written, and easily understood by both the professional dog exhibitor and the owner of a beloved family pet. Every person who contemplates purchasing a dog or who has a dog should own this book." - Victor Joris, AKC Toy Group Judge.

"Darlene Arden has come up with an informative book which, just like the little creatures that inspired it, manages to be of serious intent and at the same time entertaining. A thorough instruction manual for small dogs in general, it delves into the breed-specific joys and idiosyncrasies of these mini-sized canine charmers as well."- Lilian Barber, Author, The Italian Greyhound, 21st Century.

"For anyone who has owned a small dog, the best book ever written has been written by Darlene Arden." - Martha Smith, Providence Journal Bulletin.

"At last, we have a book devoted to Toy dogs written by an authority on Toy dog care…This book would be a worthwhile addition to any dog fancier's library." - Glenna Fierheller, Dogs in Canada.

"Arden's breezy, unassuming portrait of the Rodney Dangerfields of dogdom captures everything from their blue-collar feistiness to their charming insouciance." - Ranny Green The Seattle Times.

"If you've never considered yourself a 'small dog person,' this book could change your mind. If you've always loved Toys, you'll feel vindicated. And if you're considering a change of dog to a smaller breed this book will help you to avoid what could be fatal mistakes. The Irrepressible Toy Dog provides good advice for anyone with a dog, but for the Toy person it's a gift of understanding that will shatter the myth that all little dogs are or should be nasty, snappy brats. Brava!" -Karen L. Overall, MA, VMD, PhD University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

The Beagle is not a miniature teacup puppy, is one of the established breeds miniature breeds of dogs in the library, etc. means that we have collected information on the back of record includes such things as the maximum size at the withers (), weight range

The Beagle is a very friendly miniature> Breed of dog and loves to play - especially with children.

This is an urban myth (probably some truth to it) that an even smaller version of the race was led men in England by William the Conqueror and his when they invaded and conquered the country. The story goes that they put the horses in the dog food packs on their side as they were so small, and therefore were used for hunting small animals like rabbits, they always say an armyMarche on the belly!

The miniature beagle need education, to be happy alone can take around a bit 'full and noisy if left alone for a long time, but this is one of its attractive features such as the faithful are wonderful animals, their owners are missing, when separated for long periods.

The race also good watchdogs and are known to have a brave heart much bigger than she.

After long ears, you always have to keep it clean otherwisehave a tendency to have ear problems.

They like a good brushing and still needs a lot of movement and very decent time to play - a miniature beagle, like their brothers and older sisters love to run and play, so not really suited to a style apartment-type living.

Beagles are often in need of an education that is very good. Without the proper training, may tend to be yappy, often draw when on a leash when walking and can be a bit 'lively -but when all is said and done, are a small dog breed adorable - her big brown eyes and the spirit of engaging the family pets are awesome.

Common diseases of this breed is susceptible to epilepsy, spinal problems,, glaucoma and cataract problems of the ear, so do not forget to get some good case of health insurance, only
